Kinky Soul's Summer Reading Night is less a reading and more a ritual: an open-air stage where desire, kink and vulnerability are spoken out loud.
The 40th edition brings the project's monthly reading ritual into the summer air. A microphone waiting under the open sky, a circle of listeners, and texts that rarely leave people's notebooks or private chats.
Language itself becomes a kink scene.

What gets read
The night is framed as spoken desire. Confession, poetry, dark humour, vulnerable truths, and the stories that are rarely spoken out loud.
Readers are invited to bring homemade erotica, filthy poetry, tender admissions, strange fantasies, personal revelations or pieces that refuse any neat category.
The only real condition is that the text matters to the person reading it. Literary polish is secondary to honesty, heat and emotional risk.
Open stage, soft crowd
Kinky Soul describes the Reading Night as an open stage for kinky self-expression through literature and performance, held as a recurring community ritual rather than a one-off show.
Readers are treated as legends. First-timers are worshipped. The event explicitly celebrates people who step up to the mic for the first time, treating nervousness and shaky voices as part of the aesthetic instead of something to hide.
Each reader gets a short slot on stage: enough time to land a text, not so much that the night stalls.

Why Mauersegler works for this
The Summer Reading Night edition takes place at Mauersegler Berlin, a beer-garden venue right by Mauerpark, with space for intimate open-air formats.
Under trees, near the wall trace, with the city humming around it: the setting does half the emotional work. It softens the room, holds the silences, and turns strangers into a temporary audience willing to listen.
Weather-dependent by design. That is part of the ritual.

Why it belongs on the Berlin Kink Calendar
Berlin's kink scene is often documented through its parties and play spaces. Reading Nights sit in a quieter register: closer to zine culture, spoken word and community storytelling than to the dance floor.
For Sex Searchers, this format matters. It is one of the few Berlin spaces where kink is not only felt but articulated, where the vocabulary of desire is practised out loud, and where being witnessed becomes its own kind of scene.
Forty editions in, Kinky Soul has turned that practice into infrastructure.
